Simple ideas to support your child's learning and wellbeing at home.
Children aged 3 to 5 need about 10 to 13 hours of sleep a day, including naps. Keep bedtime, meals and school mornings at the same time each day so your child feels secure and ready to learn.
Even 10 minutes a day makes a big difference. Point to the pictures, ask "what happens next?", and read in both Tamil and English. Let your child turn the pages.
The WHO advises no more than one hour of screen time a day for children aged 2 to 4, and less is better. Watch together, choose slow and gentle content, and keep screens away at meals and the hour before bed.
Mini idlis, chapati rolls, curd rice, sprouts, boiled corn or cut fruit work well. Avoid chips and sugary drinks, and always send a labelled water bottle.
Say a short, cheerful goodbye and don't slip away unseen. Talk about school positively at home, pick up on time, and let your child carry a small comfort item if it helps.
School bag, water bottle, lunch box, a small snack, a napkin and a spare set of clothes. Label everything with your child's name.
Every child grows at their own pace. These are gentle goals, not tests. Talk to your child's teacher anytime.
